Honoring a Life Dedicated to the Ocean

Ben Carlson lived his life in service to the ocean and the people who entered it.

A lifelong waterman, accomplished big-wave surfer, and 15-year Newport Beach Lifeguard, Ben dedicated his life to protecting others. On July 6, 2014, following a busy Fourth of July weekend marked by powerful surf and hundreds of rescues, Ben made his final rescue saving a distressed swimmer.

His selflessness and commitment to protecting others continue to inspire the lifeguard community and everyone who knew his story.

A Legacy That Continues to Save Lives

Following Ben's passing, family, friends, fellow lifeguards, and supporters established the Ben Carlson Memorial & Scholarship Foundation to carry forward the values that defined his life.

Today, the Foundation advances its mission by:

  • Supporting lifeguard agencies with life-saving equipment and training
  • Promoting ocean safety education and awareness
  • Providing scholarships to students who demonstrate leadership and service
  • Supporting youth and communities through programs that expand access to water safety resources

The Foundation's work extends well beyond Newport Beach, helping strengthen lifeguard programs and improve ocean safety for communities around the world.

Supporting Those Who Protect Others

At FLORENCE, we believe in building equipment for people who spend their lives in and around the water. Supporting the Ben Carlson Foundation is one way we can help advance that mission beyond the products we make.

A portion of proceeds from every purchase in the Ben Carlson Collection helps fund the Foundation's work to provide life-saving equipment, training, scholarships, and ocean safety programs.

Shop the Ben Carlson Collection and help support the people dedicated to keeping our waters safe.
